Read Verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28

We are coming to the end of week 2 of our prayer commitment. How are you doing? Are you slowing down, some of us might be. Prayer is a spiritual exercise, and it doesn't come naturally. It's like brussel sprouts, a taste for it has to develop over time, so don't give up. Put your jogging shoes back on and lets get going.
Prayer can give us a chance to give thanks. When we read in scripture "this is gods will" we can be assured that this is something God wants us to do...not out of necessity, but out of desire. A heart which is being changed by God is often thankful for the blessings that have come their way. Thankfulness has a way of turning our focus onto God. It has a way of bringing about humility, and meekness, and helping us to understand we are not self-sufficient. What do you have to give thanks for?
It is no secret that we must give thanks to the Lord for all the things that He provides and all of the things He does on our behalf. His goodness and loving-kindness to us should be recognized on a daily basis. In 1 Chronicles 16:34, we are commanded to “give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Think of all the wonderful things Jesus has done for us! When you remember that you have a “priceless Savior” and you remember how much you have been given – you cannot help being filled with gratitude.
There is an old hymn that goes.....
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your blessings, see what God hath done
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your many blessings see what God hath done
Take a piece of paper and just write down some of God's blessings, see how much of the paper you can fill up. A thankful heart is a prayerful heart.
Today Heavenly Father we lift up our hearts and we thank you for all the wonderful things you have done for us. We thank you for the gift of your Son, his death, the forgiveness of sins, His resurrection, eternal life. We thank you for your promises, we thank you for Holy Spirit, we thank you for your love and mercy and grace. We thank you for a peaceful life, for the fruit of the Spirit, for prayer, for a loving Father who cares for all of our needs. Fill us with thankful hearts and guide us to see blessings o' plenty. In the name of your Son Jesus we pray. AMEN
